Concept BG

this is a previous digital assignment that i am now just getting to posting, I based it on the treasury at petra in Jordan. I didnt start with an underdrawing, I just started with colours in PS and started building the shapes. I'm planning to go back to it and adding some more texture and fix up some rocks.

Final Painting

So this is my last digital painting assignment EVER. I wont be having the class next semester so this is it. I chose to do a very flat stylized kind of scene, since I'd never done something like that before. This whole thing was pretty much made with pen tool and I gotta say I am pretty happy with it. Hopefully my professor agrees.

Hello, Ladies...

video

Ejector Seat? You must be joking!

I never joke about my work, 007. And in this case my work involved having to render a car for digital painting class. I had to make sure that the perspective on my initial drawing of Bond's Aston Martin was correct before I could start painting, and then after that it was just slowly painting, blending, and looking at a lot of reference to make sure the chrome and shine on the car looked right. This monster took two weekends of my life, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Look! Up in the Sky!

video

This here's my Door Open assignment. My teacher let me do my own thing on it, and I ended up having alot of fun with it. I don't remember another animation assignment that I've enjoyed working on as much as this one.

Side Note: The reason he doesn't have his cape is because It's on the other side of the door.

It Came From Beneath The DEEEP!

My monster for digital painting. I wanted him to be like the kinda creature you'd see in a low budget horror movie in the 50's. pretty happy with how he turned out. Wish I had taken more progress pics but whatever, next time I guess.

Tiberius Finch

Cant wait to sculpt this dude for character design later in the semester.

For digital painting class I decided to a portrait of the character I'm designing for character design class. Since he's an arrogant captain of a ship, I decided to do the kind of classical self portrait that this arrogant son of a gun would have hanging in his cabin. I spent a huge amount of time rendering the grey scale for him, and when the time came for me to put the colour in it, I tinted the tonal and then dropped a coloured flat over it on overlay.

There are some fixes that seriously need to be made to it though.

And We're back with the tonals.

So for the second assignment in digital painting, we did a refresher with lighting. I masked it out and used gradients for most of it, except the chair, which i used a brush for.
I then added a copy of the layer and put it on a multiply and kept workin on the lighting.
Kept dicking around with the lighting...
Overall I think I got the light decent, and I think it came out alright in the end.

Fiiiiiiish?

So I'm back in the grind at school. For our first Digital Painting assignment, we had to do a fish. I started by picking a tropical fish and tweaking him a bit. I then started blocking in the shape and tried to figure out the form.

Then I started adding details like the stripes, etc. Alot of the time was spent making sure the form of the fish was correct. Once I was happy with that, I added in the two bottom fins. They took probably more time than anything else at this point, and quite a bit of reference to get them to look correct.

I then added in the rest of the fins, but surprisingly those didn't take as long. All I did was put a flat shape in for 'em, and then added in the details with more flow in my brush.
I then added in the background and gave it a gaussian blur so it wouldn't attract the viewer's eye from the fish itself. I also started planning the scales at this point.
Aaaaaand here's the final. At this point all that was left to do was the scales, and after a few hours of building them up, they were done.

So that's my fish, and Yoche dubbed him Barnicle.

Revised Bruce Willis, plus Stephen Silver assignment

Tweaked Bruce Willis up a bit for the yearbook. Eyes aren't so dead now and the hairline makes more sense.  Also tweaked the lips. The original can be found here for comparison.

And here's my Stephen Silver assignment that I never got around to posting. Also goin in the yearbook.

Its almost 2 a.m and I haven't posted anything in a while...

so I doodled Superman.

Got a little bored with him though after a bit, had a lot more fun drawing mild mannered Clark Kent.
...Also Krypto the Super dog...

Now to draw something substantial.

EDIT: Just realised I made a mistake on Supe's shield emblem. Dammit....

Warehouse Painting

Here's my latest (and last) digital painting assignment of the year. We had to do a night time scene. I'm actually pretty happy with how this turned out, but I can see some spot where I could clean it up as well. The Line art is courtesy of my professor, Omar Dogan.

Historical Pan

So here's my historical pan cleanup for layout class. I did a Macchu Picchu type place for it. Really happy with how it turned out. Gotta say I'm really starting to enjoy layout. Now all thats left is to paint this sucker.

Creature WIP

Here's my ogre character tweaked. Still wanna take the time to spruce it up even more, so as far as I'm concerned this is still a work in progress.

It belongs in a Museum!

video

This is the latest animation that I did for class, and I was inspired by a certain man with a hat. Had alot of fun with it, but it could use a lot more inbetweens to tighten up the timing. I'll probably revisit it in the summer for fun.

Creature Render

Pretty happy wit the creature, not too happy with skeleton. Probably gonna revisit it down the line and fix the skeleton.

Self Portait

Did a self portrait for class. Kinda messed up on the eyes, and still don't understand how to approach hair. Overall though I think I got a decent resemblance  going. Still have a lot to learn though.

"Let's see you take *this* under advisement!"

SOO finally in we got to actually paint something in digital painting, instead of coloring in a background. We got to do a celebrity caricature, and I did Mr. Bruce Willis. I think I lost a bit of the resemblance when I caricatured it, but overall I'm very happy with how it turned out. This was my first attempt at doing a proper digital painting and I'm definitely going to be doing more of these as soon as I have the time.

A bit of a dilemma

So last week we had to do a barbershop layout for Layout class, and this week our job is to color it for Digital Tools class. Part of the assignment is to design a character to go into the barbershop. I gotta say though , I'm not really sure which of these concepts to go with? Any feedback is definitely appreciated, people.

¡¡¡Papa, voy a ser FLAMINGO!!!

So every week in my department, one of my professors will post a weekly drawing challenge for everyone. This week's theme was a character named El Flamingo, created by a very talented lady named Yochie Bee. He's a middle aged Latin "superhero" who through a series of misunderstandings was raised by flamingos. For my attempt at the challenge I decided to depict his origin; and event which drove him to seek vengeance and begin a "war" on crime.

UPDATED: My friend Tara reminded me that I messed up the shadow, and had the gradient going the wrong way, with the farthest part the darkest rather than it being darkest closer to the knees. Whoops gotta keep an eye out for stuff like that next time.
